From a notebook named “Ideas”

The Self as Object.

Same as everybody else is an object in the eyes of the self, it stands to reason that the self itself has to be an object. No less an object than the others. Objects, the others, that deteriorate and die and melt into the background, each not unlike any other “lesser” piece of garbage.

The self therefore, what should it be but another object perhaps better taken care of, so that, seeing how the other objects fare, it deteriorates maybe at a slower pace, and so is more durable, and thus can think longer about objects and selves, and shits like that.
